Getting started

Get your coffee machine ready

Before first use

Have the machine installed by qualified personnel; if you already use it, you do not need to repeat first-use setup.

  1. 1

    Clean before use

Clean the machine and its coffee- and milk-contact parts as described in the cleaning guides. Use a soft damp cloth and mild, neutral detergent unless a part's guide says otherwise.

  2. 2

    Start the machine

Connect the installed machine to the mains and turn on the side main switch A1. Follow the display through preparation, rinsing and heating. Let the automatic heating and rinse cycle finish.

Front control panel showing On/Stand-by C1 to the left of display C2

What you need

  • Soft cloth
  • Mild, neutral detergent

Keep in mind

  • Switch off before maintenance and disconnect before cleaning by hand. Use the powered display for automatic cleaning, rinsing and descaling programmes.
  • Hot surfaces, water and steam can burn. Use the handles and avoid splashes. Never immerse the machine or wet its electrical connections.
  • Use no abrasive pads, solvents, alcohol or alkaline cleaners. Do not operate the machine pulled out of its frame.
  • Keep children supervised. Stop using cracked glass or a damaged cable; arrange authorised service.
  • Use only manufacturer-recommended accessories. Do not use green, caramelised or candied coffee beans.

Set the water hardness

When setting up the machine

Match the setting to your water so the descaling reminder can work appropriately. The factory setting is level 4.

  1. 1

    Test the water

Fully dip the supplied Water Hardness Test strip in a glass of your water for one second. Take it out and shake lightly. Wait about one minute.

  2. 2

    Save the result

Count the red squares: each square means one level. Open Settings → Setup → Water Hardness and select level 1–4; 1 is soft and 4 very hard.

What you need

  • Water Hardness Test strip
  • Glass

Fit a water-softener filter

When fitting an optional water filter

A filter is optional equipment; it may not have been supplied with your machine. Use the manufacturer-approved filter M3BICF200, code 9029798726.

  1. 1

    Start the installation guide

Unpack the new filter. Open Settings → Maintenance → Install water filter and follow the display.
