Getting started

Get ready to care for your purifier

Before first use

Children must not play with the appliance; supervise children's cleaning. If the cord, adapter or appliance is damaged, stop using it and contact Philips. This appliance does not replace ventilation or a carbon-monoxide safety device.

  1. 1

    Place it safely

Use a dry, level surface with at least 20 cm clear around the appliance and 30 cm above it. Keep air openings clear and the surrounding area dry.

  2. 2

    Unpack the filters

With the appliance unplugged, remove the front cover and water tank. Remove all packaging from the FY3400 purification filter and FY3401 humidification filter. Fit the bracket around the humidification filter, then refit both filters, the cover and tank.

Fit the bracket correctly around the FY3401 humidification filter
  3. 3

    Connect the adapter

Use the supplied adapter only. Connect it to the appliance first, then the wall socket.

  4. 4

    Keep cleaning safe

Switch off and unplug before cleaning, filling, moving or replacing filters. Use no abrasive, aggressive or flammable cleaners. Never put liquid on the purification filter or vacuum the particle sensor. Keep water out of the air openings and nearby sockets dry. Keep the appliance upright while cleaning.

Clean the particle sensor

Every 2 months

Every 2 months, or sooner: Sooner in dusty or very humid conditions

Clean more often in dusty surroundings. High humidity can leave condensation on the sensor and cause an incorrect poor-air-quality reading; clean it if this happens.

  1. 1

    Open the sensor cover

    Open the air-quality sensor cover.

  2. 2

    Clean and dry the sensor

Clean the particle sensor with a damp cotton swab, then dry all parts thoroughly with a dry cotton swab.

  3. 3

    Close the cover

    Close the sensor cover.

What you need

  • Cotton swabs

Replace the humidification filter

Every 6 months

Philips recommends replacement every 6 months for optimal performance. A filter still in good condition may last longer, but replace it at least once a year. Replace a very dirty filter with dark spots before using the appliance again after a long break.

  1. 1

    Remove the old filter

Pull out the water tank. Remove the bracket from the FY3401 filter and discard the used filter.

  2. 2

    Fit the new filter

Unpack an original Philips FY3401 humidification filter. Fit the bracket correctly around it and return the tank to the appliance.

Refill the water tank

When the water light stays orange

  1. 1

    Fill the tank

Pull out the water tank and slowly add cold tap water, watching the level window. Stay below the maximum mark. Do not add fragrance, chemicals, hot water or groundwater.

  2. 2

    Refit the tank

Place the tank back correctly. A flashing orange humidification light means the tank needs to be seated correctly; a steady orange light means it needs water.

Keep in mind

  • If water overflows, promptly switch off and remove the water tank.

Clean the purification filter

  1. 1

    Remove the filter

Pull off the front cover and take out the purification filter.

  1. 1

    Replace the filter
