Getting started

Getting started

Before first use

  1. 1

    Prepare the machine

Read and keep the safety booklet. Rinse all removable water-, coffee- and milk-contact accessories with hot water before first use. Fill the water tank with fresh water and the bean hopper with plain roasted beans. Switch on and let the automatic rinse finish; the machine is ready when the drink lights stay on. Brew 5 coffees initially to let it adjust. AquaClean is optional and is not supplied with every model; availability varies by country.

Keep in mind

  • Place the machine upright on a stable, level surface, away from heat and outside a cabinet. Check its rated voltage and use an earthed socket.
  • For hand cleaning, unplug and let hot parts cool. Powered cleaning cycles and counter resets use power as their steps direct. Handle the plug with dry hands and pull the plug, not the cord.
  • Let all washed parts dry completely before reassembly. Replace cracked, deformed or unusually discoloured food-contact parts.
  • Keep electrical connections dry. Never immerse the machine, plug or cord. Do not use damaged equipment; use authorised service for repairs.
  • Hot water and steam can splash, including before dispensing and during rinsing. Keep clear of outlets and use protective handles. Wait for dispensing to finish before using the machine or fitting LatteGo.
  • Use plain roasted beans, never caramelised or flavoured beans. Use a soft water-dampened cloth for exterior cleaning; avoid abrasives and aggressive solvents.
  • Keep the machine upright and above freezing. Empty the tank before a long absence. Ask Philips support about emptying the internal water circuit; do not improvise a draining procedure.

Remove and refit the brew group

When brew-group care is needed

  1. 1

    Remove the brew group

Switch off and wait for the machine to stop, then unplug. Remove the tank, open the service door, press PUSH and pull the brew group out by its grip.

Press PUSH to release the brew group
Pull the brew group out by its grip
  2. 2

    Refit the brew group

Align the arrow on the yellow cylinder with the black arrow and N; if needed, push the lever down to the base. Slide the group along its rails until it clicks, without pressing PUSH. Close the service door and replace the tank.

Align the brew-group arrow with N
Push the brew-group lever down to the base
Slide the brew group along its side rails
Seat the brew group until it clicks

Prepare and activate AquaClean

When fitting a new AquaClean filter

  1. 1

    Prepare and fit the filter

The machine must be free of limescale; descale first if the orange AquaClean light has gone out. With the machine on, shake the filter for about 5 seconds. Immerse it upside down in cold water and shake or press it for about 30 seconds. Press it vertically onto the tank connection as far down as possible. Fill the tank with fresh water and refit it.

Immerse the filter upside down in cold water for about 30 seconds
Press the filter down onto the tank connection
  2. 2

    Activate the filter

Remove LatteGo if attached. Put a bowl under the hot-water outlet. Hold AquaClean for 3 seconds, then press start/stop. Hot water runs for about 3 minutes. Wait for the blue AquaClean light. Each new filter needs activation; insertion alone is not detected.

Locate the AquaClean control and light
Hold AquaClean for 3 seconds to start activation

What you need

  • AquaClean filter
  • Jug
  • Bowl

Keep in mind

  • Use AquaClean only with treated tap water or private-supply water approved as safe to drink. During a boil-water advisory, boil and cool tank water first. When the advisory ends, the whole machine needs cleaning and a new cartridge; ask Philips support for the cleaning procedure.
  • For babies or people with weakened immune systems, the manufacturer recommends purified water or boiled tap water even with AquaClean. Filtration may slightly increase sodium; consult your doctor first if you have kidney disease, receive dialysis or follow a sodium-restricted diet.
  • Keep replacement cartridges cool and dry in their original packaging. Never open a cartridge. A younger used filter after prolonged absence remains outside this guide; ask Philips support without resetting its age or counter.

Set water hardness

During first-use setup

  1. 1

    Test and set

Use a water-hardness strip according to its instructions. The default is 4. Switch off, keeping power connected, and hold aroma strength until all its lights come on. Select 1 light for one red dot or four green dots, 2 for two red dots, 3 for three, or 4 for four. Press start/stop to confirm. If the strip result is unclear, ask support for the matching setting.

Assemble LatteGo

Before using LatteGo

  1. 1

    Assemble the rinsed parts

Rinse LatteGo before first use. With the milk container and frame clean and dry, put the top of the container under the frame hook, then press the bottom until it clicks. Tilt LatteGo onto the hot-water outlet and press it into place.

Place the top of the LatteGo container under the frame hook
Click the milk container into the LatteGo frame
Tilt LatteGo onto the hot-water outlet

Keep in mind
