Troubleshooting

Choose what you notice. These are the issues covered by your appliance guide.

Rinse water or a grounds reminder seems unusual

Possible causes

Water collects in the drip tray

The machine automatically rinses its internal circuit, so some water in the tray is normal. A cup under the coffee spout can collect the rinse water.

Empty the drip tray
A new machine contains a little coffee residue

Machines are tested with coffee before packing. A little remaining residue can be normal.

The empty-grounds message remains, or the container overfills
Empty the coffee grounds container
Coffee or water flows slowly or not at all

01 · 05

Possible causes

Air may be in the water circuit
Clear air from the water circuit
An AquaClean filter may be unprepared or clogged

Remove the optional filter and test hot-water flow. If flow returns, prepare the filter correctly before refitting. Replace it if clogged or three months old; do not restart its age.

Replace the AquaClean filter
The grind may be too fine

Try a coarser, higher grind setting. This also changes the taste.

Adjust the grind setting
The brew group may be dirty
Rinse the brew group
The outlet holes may be blocked
Clear the coffee spout
Ground coffee may be compacted in the funnel
Check the ground-coffee compartment
Scale may be restricting the circuit
Descale the machine
Flow still does not recover

Stop troubleshooting and contact Philips support if these checks do not resolve the problem. Contact support

The brew group will not move or is not detected

03 · 04

Possible causes

The group is dirty or insufficiently greased
Rinse the brew group
Lubricate the brew group
The group is not correctly positioned or locked
Rinse the brew group
The group cannot be removed
Reset a brew group that will not come out
The group cannot be inserted
Reset a brew group that will not fit
Coffee tastes watery or is not hot enough

Possible causes

The machine is adjusting

After first use, a change of beans or prolonged non-use, brew five coffees to let the machine adjust.

The group may need cleaning and lubrication
Rinse the brew group
Lubricate the brew group
The grind may be too coarse

A lower setting gives a finer grind. Assess the difference after two to three drinks.

Adjust the grind setting
Temperature is set low, or a cold cup or milk cools the drink

Use Settings to choose a higher coffee temperature. Preheat the cup with hot water. Adding milk lowers the coffee temperature.

LatteGo does not froth or leaks

Possible causes

Container and frame are not locked together
Fit LatteGo
Milk-contact parts need cleaning
Clean LatteGo
The milk gives a different foam quality

Use milk straight from the fridge. Different milk types produce different foam; the manufacturer tested semi-skimmed, full-fat and lactose-free cow's milk.

The machine seems to leak

Possible causes

Normal rinse water or an overflowing tray

Internal rinsing sends water into the drip tray. Empty it daily or when the red indicator rises.

Empty the drip tray
The water tank is not fully seated

Remove and push the water tank fully back into position.

The brew group is dirty or clogged
Rinse the brew group
The machine is tilted

Place it on a flat, horizontal surface so the tray and full-tray indicator work correctly.

Leakage persists

Unplug the machine if a malfunction occurs and contact Philips support. Contact support

A refill or insert message appears

Possible causes

The tank is nearly empty or not seated

Fill with fresh drinking water to MAX, or refit the tank fully.

The hopper needs beans

Fill with unflavoured coffee beans.

The grounds container needs emptying
Empty the coffee grounds container
The brew group is missing or incorrectly locked
Rinse the brew group
The machine shows a temperature or power error

11 · 14 · 19

Possible causes

Code 11: the machine needs to reach room temperature

Switch it off for 30 minutes, then switch it on. If that does not work, contact Philips support.

Code 14: the machine is overheated

Switch it off and wait 30 minutes before switching on again.

Code 19: the small power plug is not connected properly

Check that the small power plug is properly connected to the socket on the back of the machine.

Another code appears, or a fault persists

Contact Philips support with the displayed code and the model number inside the service door. Repairs and electrical work require authorised service. Contact support

The machine makes an unusual noise

Possible causes

Some operating noise is normal

If the sound has changed, check the brew group, optional filter and water-tank seating.

The brew group needs cleaning or lubrication
Rinse the brew group
Lubricate the brew group
An unprepared filter or unseated tank is drawing air

Push the tank fully into place. Prepare a fitted AquaClean filter correctly before refitting; its replacement age remains unchanged.

Clear air from the water circuit
AquaClean will not fit or activate

Possible causes

The replacement reminder was missed

If the indicator has disappeared or the machine requests descaling, descale before fitting and activating a new filter.

Descale the machine
The filter is a different type

Use Philips AquaClean; other filters, including Brita, are not compatible.

The filter's rubber ring is out of place

Refit the AquaClean filter's rubber ring in place.

Care guides

Rinse after interrupted descaling

If descaling stopped before completion

  1. 1

    Rinse and refill

Empty and rinse the tank thoroughly. Fill with fresh water to the Calc/Clean line and switch the machine on.

  2. 2

    Rinse the hot-water circuit

Remove LatteGo if attached. Repeatedly select More Drinks, then Hot Water, and press start/stop until half a tank has been dispensed.

  3. 3

    Rinse the coffee circuit

Select pre-ground coffee and prepare two cups without adding any coffee. Complete another descaling procedure as soon as possible.

Keep in mind

  • Do this before preparing a drink. Keep clear of hot water.

Clear the coffee spout

If the coffee outlet holes are blocked

  1. 1

    Clear the holes

Clean the coffee dispensing spout and its holes with a pipe cleaner or needle.

  • Do not force the group or press PUSH while sliding it back in.

Clear air from the water circuit

If error 05 indicates air

  1. 1

    Restart and test

Switch the machine off and on. Remove LatteGo if attached. If the restart works, select More Drinks, then Hot Water, and press start/stop to dispense two to three cups of hot water.

  2. 2

    Check the optional filter

If a filter may be blocking flow, remove it and test dispensing hot water or brewing coffee. If that works, prepare the filter correctly before refitting. Replace it if clogged or three months old; do not reset its age. If the problem persists, contact Philips support.

What you need

  • Collecting cup

Keep in mind

  • Hot water is dispensed.
